Abelia, confused by Augustus’ behaviour, picked at the food on her plate. One minute he acted like an attentive lover and the next an unwelcome lecher. However, he taunted Ascanius throughout the meal, and suggested the young man spend some cash on one of the barmaids. She understood Augustus wanting to any rivals away from her, but doubted if perceived Ascanius as one.

He preferred the tranquil life in the country and its simple joys. Clean air, fresh food, natural beauty and a temperate climate, pleased him. While listening to the bees, from his nearby hives, he thought about their sweet honey. Because of their soothing buzz, the day’s concerns drifted away. Consequently, as he enjoyed the early evening sunshine and clear blue sky in his rooftop garden, and he sank into a deep sleep.
