Abelia, confused by Augustus’ behaviour, picked at the food on her plate. One minute he acted like an attentive lover and the next an unwelcome lecher. However, he taunted Ascanius throughout the meal, and suggested the young man spend some cash on one of the barmaids. She understood Augustus wanting to any rivals away from her, but doubted if perceived Ascanius as one.
